IT Support for Architecture & Interior Design Firms in Dallas

Workstations that cannot keep up with the model

A Revit model that takes minutes to open, a render that ties up a machine all afternoon, a laptop that was bought for email and now runs AutoCAD. The wrong hardware costs design hours every day, and the right hardware is not as expensive as people fear.

Files scattered across drives, laptops and links

Project files live on a server, a cloud drive, two laptops and a sharing link someone sent a contractor. Nobody is sure which version is current or whether last month's work is backed up. I bring that into one structure with real backups.

The network chokes on large files

Opening a central model or a folder of high-resolution images across an office Wi-Fi network is slow by nature. Cabled connections, a proper switch and storage that keeps up fix it for good.

IT companies that do not understand design work

A generic provider recommends an office laptop for a designer, sizes storage for spreadsheets and schedules an update in the middle of a deadline. I know what a studio actually needs and when it needs to be left alone.

What you get

How I handle IT for architecture & design firms

Workstations specified for the work

Machines chosen for Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, rendering and Adobe, with the right graphics card, memory and storage. Models open, renders finish and designers stop waiting on hardware.

Shared storage that is fast and backed up

A file server or hosted storage sized for years of drawings and images, organized by project, with permissions that make sense and backups tested regularly. You know exactly where every file lives.

One contact who knows the studio

You never explain your setup twice. I know which principal runs Rhino, which workstation is the render box and which project has a submission next week. That knowledge makes every fix faster.

A good fit if

  • Architecture practices, interior design studios, landscape and AEC firms from a few people up to about 25 in Dallas–Fort Worth

  • Firms moving to a new studio or outgrowing a mix of cloud drives and laptops

Probably not if

How it works

What happens after you get in touch

A short conversation about the studio

How many people, which software, where project files live, whether you render in-house, and what has been slowing you down. That is enough for a per-user quote.

A look at what you have

I document the workstations, storage, network, backups and email, and I list the risks in plain English. If you are leaving another IT company, I collect access first so nothing goes dark.

Fix the bottlenecks first

Backups, the storage layout and whatever is making models slow get handled in the first weeks. Workstation replacements are scheduled around deadlines.

Ongoing support

You call or email me when something is off. I monitor in the background, update after hours and check in regularly, so the studio can plan hardware spending instead of reacting to failures.

Month to month, in writing

Managed plans have no long-term contract. Projects get a fixed written quote after a walkthrough.

Deeper dives

Who provides IT support for architecture and design firms in Dallas?

I do. Cross River Tech is a small owner-led managed IT company in Dallas, and I am the owner and your point of contact. I support architecture and interior design studios across Dallas–Fort Worth, including the Design District, and remotely anywhere in Texas, as managed IT billed per user or per device, with my team handling the routine monitoring and updates behind me.

A generic IT company misjudges a studio in predictable ways. A designer's workstation is not an office laptop. A project folder is not a spreadsheet. A Revit central model behaves badly on Wi-Fi. A submission deadline is not the time for a Windows update. I build the setup around the work, not around a template.

What does an AutoCAD or Revit workstation actually need?

Five things, chosen for each person's actual work rather than one spec for everyone. I specify, source and set up workstations, usually from the Dell and Lenovo workstation lines.

  • Processor: Revit and AutoCAD lean on single-core speed, so a fast processor matters more than a large core count. Rendering is the opposite and uses every core it can get.
  • Memory: Large Revit models and open Adobe files eat memory; undersized memory is the most common cause of a workstation crawling by mid-afternoon.
  • Graphics card: A workstation-class or high-end gaming card for real-time tools such as Enscape and for navigating large models.
  • Storage: Fast solid-state storage for the system, applications and working files, with the archive on the server.
  • Displays: Two large, color-accurate monitors for designers working with finishes and materials.

A laptop can work for a principal who travels, but one asked to run Revit all day is slower, hotter and shorter-lived than a desktop at the same price. If your workstations are slow today, AutoCAD and Revit workstation support walks through what to check first.

Where should a design studio keep its project files?

On storage built for large files and reached over a cable: an in-office file server for firms that work mostly in-house, hosted storage for firms that share heavily with consultants, or both, with a project folder structure and permissions that make sense to designers rather than to an IT manual.

Four rules from experience:

  • Central Revit models belong on wired connections to a server or storage built for them, never on a consumer cloud drive.
  • Every desk gets a cabled Cat6 connection. Wi-Fi is for phones and visitors.
  • Storage is sized for several years of growth, not for today.
  • Client and contractor sharing goes through a controlled link system, not personal accounts.

Nightly backups of the server or storage, kept onsite for quick restores and offsite for fire, theft or ransomware, mean a folder deleted on Friday is back on Monday. Full detail in file servers, shared storage and backups for design firms and on the cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery page.

What is different about IT for an interior design studio?

More images, more vendors and more time out of the office. Interior design work is heavier in Adobe and SketchUp, carries large material and finish libraries, goes to clients on tablets and runs on constant showroom and vendor email. Around the Dallas Design District a designer may be away from the desk half the day. For those studios I focus on color-accurate displays, storage that handles thousands of images without slowing down, secure remote access so a designer at a showroom can pull a drawing, and email filtering against the fake invoice and payment-change messages aimed at businesses that pay vendors regularly. IT for interior design studios in Dallas covers the setup in depth.

Who handles IT when an architecture office moves to a new Dallas studio?

I do, and the move is the one time the network can be done right. Cat6 runs from the IT room to every desk, the conference room, the plotter and the material library, each drop labeled and tested, with the rack, patch panel, switch, firewall and access points in place before anyone arrives. Internet is ordered early, because carriers can take weeks to reach a new suite. Then the server and workstations are moved, reconnected and tested, usually over a weekend so no billable days are lost. Details on the data cabling and IT room setup and office move and new office IT setup pages.

Is managed IT affordable for a boutique architecture studio?

Yes, because the fee is per user: a three-person studio pays for three people, not for a corporate package. Studios that only need help occasionally can use hourly break/fix support instead.

Day to day, you call or email, I answer or call back, and most problems are fixed remotely in minutes; updates and hardware swaps happen when you tell me the studio is quiet. Contact me with your headcount, software and where your files live.

Questions architecture & design firms ask

What is the best IT support company for architecture firms in Dallas?

For a studio of a few people up to about 25, the best fit is someone who understands design software, workstation hardware and large-file storage, and who answers when you call. Cross River Tech is a small owner-led managed IT company in Dallas, and you deal with me directly: I specify and support AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and rendering workstations, set up file servers and backups, and work month-to-month with studios across Dallas–Fort Worth.

Do you understand design software and rendering hardware?

Yes. I support AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, Adobe Creative Cloud and Bluebeam, and I specify the workstations they run on: processor, memory, graphics card, storage and displays chosen for the actual work. I do not set BIM standards or run your render pipeline; I make sure the hardware, storage and network never become the reason a deadline slips.

Can you set up a file server for an architecture firm?

Yes. I design and set up shared storage that fits the studio: an in-office file server, hosted storage or a combination, with a project folder structure, sensible permissions, wired connections to every desk and nightly backups kept onsite and offsite. I size it for several years of growth and test restores regularly so deleted or corrupted files come back.

Can you handle IT for an architecture office moving to a new Dallas studio?

Yes. I run Cat6 cable to every desk and the plotter, set up the rack, switch, firewall and Wi-Fi, coordinate internet early, then move the server and workstations, reconnect and test everything, usually over a weekend. Because I support the network afterwards, there is no hand-off between a cabling contractor and an IT company.

Do you work with interior design studios as well as architects?

Yes. Interior design studios, including those around the Dallas Design District, get the same support with a slightly different focus: color-accurate displays, storage that handles large image libraries, secure remote access for designers at showrooms, and email filtering against fake vendor invoices. Landscape, lighting and other AEC studios fit the same model.

How much does IT support cost for a small design firm in Dallas?

I quote per user or per device per month after a short conversation about the studio, month-to-month with no long-term contract. For context, small business managed IT in the Dallas market is commonly quoted somewhere around $100 to $175 per user per month; that is a typical market range, not my price list. Hourly help without a contract is $100 remote and $150 onsite.
